BJ Upton

His shoulder is fully healed and that means he's a solid threat for .300/25/90....and the RBIs only low because he's likely batting second in the order. Meanwhile, he'll also score 100+ Runs and steal 50 bases.

I like Upton also, but not as an overall #2 Bar.

Reyes is the third best shortstop in the NL EAST, no way do you spend the overall #2 on him.
Han-Ram before Reyes.

Pujols the no brainer pick at #2 if available.
I'd stay away from Santana, how healthy is he?
A-Rod is out for like 6 weeks, stay away, you may want to look at Sizemore, who will have a monster year, with a truckload of steals to boot.
David Wright is an option, third base is not deep this year, with A-Rod out, the drop off after that is drastic, with A. Ramierez being the third best third baseman.
Never, ever use a #2 on a reliever.

I had H Ramirez last year & finished 3rd...very happy with him.
Had Reyes two years ago.....very disappointed in him.

Im thinking Pujols, HRamirez, or Sizemore at this point.

My logic....Reyes will get a little more rest this year because of Cora....that being said he should have a better September....Hanley is moving down to third in the order....he could need time to adjust to that and also needs his 1 and 2 hitters to get on....

As for the question, anyone of Pujols, Hanley, Reyes is the way to go with Pujols being the best pick there IMO

Pujols or Hanley with Reyes and A-Rod battling it out for 3rd. Just take whichever of the first 2 that doesn't go #1.

Dont know if you are kidding or not but Upton goes at the end of the second round earliest in every single draft that i have seen.

Why would you take him before other guys who are much more valuable then him?

I was screwin' around a bit with last post (about bookmarking and bumping in September)

But serious on my belief that by years end Upton could very well be a Top10 or even Top5 offensive player

He's a true five category (Avg/HR/R/RBI/SB) guy

Yeah, I confess that the guys listed so far (Pujols, HanRam and Wright) are certainly also five category guys, save for Pujols stealing bases but I think that key to pulling RotoLeague wins is to get as many players as possible who have legitimate "upside" that could exceed their preseason rankings.

Pujols, HanRam, Wright are almost incapable of exceeding preseason expectations since after all, they're starting in Top3.

So within this Thread question of "Who do you pick #2" I'd say take one of those three.

AND THEN immediately offer them up for Trade to whoever selects Upton (around Pick 10-15 range).

Example

Draft HanRam

Then offer HanRam for Upton + another player ranked in Top40.

I think the "Upton" manager might well bite and then you have a good shot at ending up with a Top10 (Upton) plus the extra Top40 guy acquired in the trade.

heh

Actually...True Story...I'm in one....count it...ONE Roto FBB league which is entering it's fourth season with pretty much the same core crew

12 teams this year and I had eighth pick

So taking Upton there (which I did) is not near as radical as suggesting I use Pick #2.

Had I been granted Pick 1, 2 or 3 I would have done just what I stated in last post, which is draft one of Top3 and then traded down to get Upton + something else.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend our league's Live Draft. So I assembled a pretty fast AutoDraft list of about 30 players, including the top 11 Rays (except Longoria) scattered throughout my list at about their appropriate rankings.

So I got Upton at #8, Crawford at #17

I had Lincecum as my second, but another guy took him at #13

Anyway, after BJ and CC, some other guy took Longoria and then the other Live draft managers apparently kept discounting Rays players and when the smoke cleared, I had 12 Rays on my post draft team.....shit

Immediately cut Navarro (I got Joe Mauer earlier in draft) and just completed a trade of Pat Burrell for the Atlanta Brave closer Rodriguez.

That leaves me with five Ray pitchers (Garza, Shields, Kaz, Price, Howell), Pena, BJ, CC and also have Iwamura and Bartlett (backup SS)

Did pull KRod and Marmol, then traded to get Figgins so I think I'm in pretty strong shape to crush Saves, SB, Runs and Ks early. Will likely need to chase down HR/RBI after first couple months.

Just an update... BJ Upton out for at least the first week of the season with his left hand injury. Figured I'd put this here.
